The German stone was presented by the president of the German-Australian association of Tasmania at a reception to coincide with the anniversary of the National Day of the German Federal Republic on 24th May 1985. The stone came from Merkstein and is red and black granite with a polished face. The lettering is in gothic style and is incised and gold filled.
