The Latvian Stone was designed by Reima Miezitis and presented by Edvins Baulis President of the Latvian Community of Tasmania on 7th of March 1986. The stone is dark grey granite imported from Finland . The inscription in Latvian and English is set within a centrally placed stylized sun which represents the everlasting giver of energy health and happiness. The surrounds of the lettering and sun have been cut away leaving the bed in a rough state to symbolize the affinity of Latvian people with the earth and natural stone. The surfaces of the text and sun are polished.
