The Swedish Stone was presented by Mr. John Harris Consul for Sweden in Tasmania on behalf on the Swedish community on 24th of October 1986. The presentation was made at an event to observe United Nations day and to acknowledge the prominence of Sweden in the affairs of the United Nations including the distinguished service of Dag Hammarkjold as Secretary General from 1953 until his death in 1961. The stone is red granite with a polished face imported from Sweden through the Swedish institute. The gold filled engraved design consists of the three crown national emblem of Sweden in the centre with the inscription in Swedish above and in English below.
